First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (Disarmament and International Security Committee)

The General Assembly First Committee was established in 1945 as one of the six main committees of the United Nations General Assembly. It’s primary mandate is to address issues related to disarmament, global security, and international peace. The committee engages in discussions on arms control, nuclear non-proliferation, and the regulation of conventional arms. It also considers disarmament measures aimed at mitigating threats from weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons.

The GA 1st is vital in addressing the root causes of conflicts through disarmament and reducing the proliferation of weapons. Its work ensures that international security frameworks remain robust and responsive to emerging challenges, such as cyber warfare and autonomous weapons, fostering a safer and more secure world.

This year’s topic will be touching on the transparency in the Military Spending of the UN member states as a way to develop trust and reduce armament. In a time where Military spending is on the rise, delegates will be able to discuss and explore various ways to prevent future conflicts and distress among nations.
